Jewel Stone is a polymer-modified cement overlay applied directly over existing concrete. The surface is hand-carved and stencilled into natural stone patterns, coloured with acrylic stains, and sealed. The porch you already have becomes the stone entrance you wanted — no tear-out, no disposal bins, no new slab.
The finish is the easy part. What decides whether Jewel Stone lasts fifteen years or two is the concrete underneath: spalls ground and patched, cracks routed and filled, and the slab checked for movement before a single coat goes down. We repair the substrate first, and we will tell you honestly when a slab is too far gone to overlay.

How long does Jewel Stone last?
Fifteen to twenty years on a sound, properly prepared slab. The sealer is the wear layer — plan to re-seal every two to three years on high-traffic steps and walkways. Failures you see around the city are almost always overlay-over-bad-concrete, not the system itself.

Can it go over cracked concrete?
Hairline and shrinkage cracks — yes, after routing and filling. Structural cracks, heaved sections, or slabs that move seasonally — no. An overlay bridges cosmetic damage; it cannot hold a moving slab together, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Is it slippery when wet?
No. A non-slip additive is broadcast into the sealer coats as standard on every exterior application. The carved texture itself also provides more grip than a smooth troweled slab.

How should I treat it in winter?
Shovel normally. Avoid harsh chloride de-icers in the first season while the sealer fully cures — plain sand or a calcium-based product is safer for any sealed concrete surface, including this one.
